The September 23, 1996 issue of U.S. News & World Report lists 50 national insititutions as being "Best Values." The rankings were determined through quality ratings and costs of attendance. Six Big 12 universities are present in the list. These six are Texas A&M University (#2), the University of Kansas (#11), the University of Texas at Austin (#16), Baylor University (#23), Iowa State University (#25), and the University of Missouri - Columbia (#35). Of the 15 institutions in the U.S. offering bachelor's degrees in architectural engineering, only three made the U.S. News & World Report Best Value list. They are the University of Kansas (#11), the University of Texas at Austin (#16), and Pennsylvania State University (#28). In addition, the 10th edition of the Gourman Report, which is used by professional counselors to help students identify the best schools, ranks the KU Undergraduate Program in Architectural Engineering as #3 in the country.
